Aura Chair by Andreas Engesvik Oslo.

The winners of Bo. Bedre´s Design Awards 2019

Furniture of the year – Aura Chair (above) by Andreas Engesvik for the new Norwegian National Museum. Aura is a beautiful chair that adds a seductive softness and elegance to the room where it will be used. In its design the chair has contours that point both back and forwards in time. I look very much forward to seeing it in the new museum. More about Aura here.

Lamp of the year – Fienile by Daniel Rybakken for Luceplan. Fienile is a minimalist table lamp, first created as a table lamp but then interpreted in suspension and floor models for outdoor use. The geometric forms are based on those of simple rural buildings. The facades of the lamp and the lateral ends have been envisioned by Rybakken as a sort of delicately lit stage, a place for cherished objects, giving rise to unusual compositions of light and shadow, colors and materials.
Daniel Rybakken also
received the price Innovation of the year for his Vitrine – a TV created for Panasonic and Vitra.

Producer of the year, Høie. Photography © Dag Randen

Producer of the year – Høie. The jury was impressed by how the 170 year old producer manages to reinvent themselves through innovation and how they use design both in developing products, packaging and marketing – always seeking to collaborate with experts from the different fields. I couldn’t agree more. Read more about Høie here.

New comer of the year – Poppy Lawman. Poppy just graduated from Oslo Met and has a great passion for details and an interesting way of exploring slow design. The jury says “Poppy is curious, playful and not scared to experiment. Her work stands out as eclectic and “weird”, at the same time very interesting. She has a great sense of materiality and shape who differs from others with its contemporary expression.” More about Poppy´s design here.
