Milan Design Week will return this June with an unmissable line-up of events, exhibits and installations. We take note of what’s in store for three premium Italian kitchen, laundry and bathroom brands.

From the 7th to the 12th of June, the global design community will descend on Italy for Milan Design Week. As the largest design convention in the industry calendar, Milan Design Week will celebrate the 60th edition of the world’s largest furniture fair, Salone del Mobile, as well as the fringe events taking place at design districts around the city known collectively as the Fuorisalone. This year’s sustainability and circularity focus will see hundreds of installations, showroom exhibitions, workshops, and events spread across the city’s key design districts.

Ahead of all this, we’ve been taking notes on the new releases, installations, and events that three quintessentially Italian brands are preparing to present. Together with Abey Australia, we spotlight three distinctly Italian partner brands, Gessi, Barazza and Armando Vicario. Abey is synonymous with quality and innovation within the kitchen, laundry and bathroom industry and known for always delivering the latest European designs and technology to Australia. We see how each brand plans to celebrate this year’s design fair – and what’s coming soon to Abey’s Australian showrooms for architects and designers to explore – from Brisbane to Melbourne.

Gessi

Gessi proves itself to be a key player during Milan Design Week with a double participation. Housing state-of-the-art showrooms across the world, Gessi’s Milan flagship ‘Casa Gessi’ is located in the heart of the fashion district and will be opening its doors to host Origini; The New Shape of Colour. Origini will showcase “the union of archetypal shapes with metachromatic harmonies, created by mixing colours, materials and finishes”.

This event, in part, will be a celebration of their largest showroom’s recent transformation into a tactile habitat. Complete with new designs and spaces that appeal to wellness and sustainability, Casa Gessi now includes an underground garden, waterfall and an aerial sculpture adorned with metal tubing and vegetation. Running in tandem with this week-long event, Gessi will also be presenting another version of this installation as part of Salone del Mobile Milano from 7th-12th June. To taste Gessi’s global presence and their unique story of ethical, social and economic responsibility, be sure to view their latest collections at the Abey showrooms.

Barazza

More than 50 years of design and manufacturing experience have given Barazza the confidence and passion for experimenting with new shapes, developing cutting-edge technologies and pairing its kitchen appliances alongside its innately Italian sense of design.

A key exhibitor at this year’s leading showcase for high-end kitchens, the biennial EuroCucina event as part of Salone del Mobile showcases the best of domestic appliances and their evolution. Barazza Appliances is a front runner within this top-tier kitchen league, and this year they’ll be presenting two of their latest collections here.

Icon is Barazza’s innovative collection of ovens and products and encompasses 60cm ovens, combi-steam and microwave ovens to blast chillers. A pioneer of stainless steel, the Icon range is Barazza’s most unique application of the material yet. This collection features modern, matte black surfaces and details, sleek lines and a contemporary aesthetic that captures Barazza’s polished and precise Italian style.

Pushing boundaries and taking their craft to the outdoors, Barazza will also present their outdoor collection of kitchen cooking appliances. Another collection that uses AISI 304 stainless steel based on its high chrome and nickel content means it’s completely recyclable and aligns with Barazza’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. The streamlined Thalas freestanding hobs are the focal point of this outdoor collection and offer durable and endless alfresco cooking opportunities. The Icon and outdoor collections are available to view at Salone del Mobile and closer to home through Abey’s Australian showrooms.
