I’m high above the Swiss village of Zermatt, celebrating the wonders of the Alps — and marveling at a 100-year-old railway that still brings travelers 10,000 feet above sea level. There’s a big hotel up here, with big views…and if you’re riding just one big lift in the region, this is my choice.
For hiking and enjoying the views above Zermatt, take the oldest and best high lift in the area: the cogwheel train up the Gornergrat.
