Every year, the Parisian house Diptyque brings out a limited-edition Baies candle with a cute carousel on top, which moves around because of the heat of the candle flame. I have been too late over the past years, so as soon I noticed it on their website, I had to get one to add the first touch of winter decor to my interior.

The design varies each year and this year the Diptyque carousel set (€108*  – $142*) has golden charms with the Diptyque’s recognizable ovals. The delicate golden patterns bounce around the flame and cast a lovely sparkle on surrounding surfaces. The ovals move like planets around the sun, which is also the theme of the limited edition gift box that is decorated with stars, dancing letters, and cosmic sparkle.

While the limited edition carousel is nice, the candle that comes in the set is their famous Baies (Berries) scent which combines the coolness of blackcurrant berries with the lively accents of rose. A perfect scent for winter and the obvious choice for this limited-edition gift box.

Maison Diptyque and the importance of typography

The logo and branding heritage of Diptyque is so recognizable and a big part of their brand strategy. The name in the logo is written like the structure of an ancient temple and the disorderly lettering is a twist on the traditional but with a whimsical touch. You can immediately recognize the logo and their brand identity is one of the most iconic and elaborate I know. So much effort goes into designing the packaging and the Christmas edition products (unfortunately the Diptyque advent calendar is already sold out this year) have extra special packaging.

If you weren’t able to snatch a Diptyque limited edition Baies candle this year, you can always get the scented candle without the carousel (€56*  – $72*) from the permanent collection.
