The newly opened Park Lane Copenhagen by Danish studio &TEMPEL invites guests to a quieter corner of the city, Hellerup, for a refined local design experience.

Earlier this year, Park Lane Copenhagen opened its doors inside the landmark Strandvejen 203 building in Hellerup, overlooking the verdant Øregårdsparken and just moments from the Øresund coast. Danish architecture and interior studio &TEMPEL were commissioned to reawaken the 1920s structure as a five-star hotel, attuned to the local heritage with a cultivated outlook. “What makes Park Lane Copenhagen truly special is the blend between local heritage and international appeal,” &TEMPEL founder Camilla van den Tempel explains.

The 67-room hotel—which also includes two private apartments, flexible meeting spaces, and working lounges—has lived many lives. It has served as a social club, cinema, and most recently, a boutique hotel. &TEMPEL drew inspiration from the cinematic legacy in spaces like The Green Room and the Symphony Suite, both nods to the silent film era with an emphasis on atmosphere and storytelling.

Honed marble, brushed brass, and custom joinery are consistent throughout the hotel.

&TEMPEL were intent on bringing out the best of the building’s past by amplifying what was already there. Original chandeliers from the former ballroom remain, as do lofty ceilings and ornate stucco details. These foundational elements are layered with sophisticated materials: chevron timber floors, honed marble benchtops, Italian fixtures by Antoniolupi, textured wallpapers, and custom furniture and lighting. The subdued scheme – browns, creams and aged brass – draws directly from the surrounding parkland, instilling a contemplative tone.

Floor-to-ceiling steel-framed doors and French balconies in each room offer views over manicured lawns and mature trees and beautifully filtered natural light, lending a sense of privacy and distance from the city’s pace. The superior ground-floor rooms, also available for guests travelling with dogs, feature private entrances and garden terraces.

Park Lane Copenhagen has all of the hallmarks of a grand European hotel, without ever overstating its presence. Here, luxury is felt and seen through the details—from the softness of the textiles to the generosity of light and space. It’s a place to pause outside of the city, while still offering closeness to Copenhagen’s cultural and design offerings
