Set in the heart of Copenhagen, 3daysofdesign celebrates global design, innovation, and individual expression, drawing in the world’s most forward-thinking designers, tastemakers, and curators.

Joining the conversation, five leading Australian creatives heading to Denmark for this year’s festival share their most anticipated highlights, including designers, installations, and must-see spaces.

Amy Henderson

Founder and director, The ARTL–NE

What are you most looking forward to seeing in Copenhagen?

Amy Henderson: I have always been curious about Copenhagen—for its art, design, architecture. Mostly, for its forward thinking spirit, a characteristic I love to explore in creativity, people and places.

What neighbourhood are you most keen to explore—and why?

Amy Henderson: I am actually looking forward to exploring as many neighbourhoods as we can, given the unique character and charm that each one offers. In saying this, I love a cold dip so I suspect I will enjoy taking my bike to Strandbad Nordhavn or Islands Brygge.

Of all the places to stay in the city, which one would be your pick?

Amy Henderson: Anywhere with a story, a place that was once something else, with a strong design aesthetic, a good night cap and a big bed.

Where will you begin your mornings, coffee in hand?

Amy Henderson: I like to start my day with a walk. We are staying in Vesterbro, an area I am looking forward to exploring with my morning coffee.

Is there a historic site you’re hoping to visit?

Amy Henderson: I am hoping to visit a couple of sites located north of the city; Finn Juhl’s House, Karen Blixen’s former home and Jaeagersborg Dyrehave.

Which exhibitions, stores or releases are on your list?

Amy Henderson: We have a busy schedule across 3daysofdesign and among our list is the Artek + Marimekko preview, LAYERED’s new collection unveiling with artist Heather Chontos and both a showroom tour and Hotel unveiling with &Tradition—we feel lucky with what’s ahead.

Which gallery or museum are you most drawn to?

Amy Henderson: Louise Roe Gallery and, of course, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

Anything you have your eye on to bring home with you?

Amy Henderson: A new perspective.

Is there a store or studio you’ve long wanted to visit?

Amy Henderson: Nicholas Shurey’s studio, which is located in a former sawmill in Amager, south of Copenhagen and Frama Studio.

A restaurant or bar you’ve got on your hit list?

Amy Henderson: Barr, Apollo Bar, La Banchina.

What’s one way you hope to experience Copenhagen like a local?

Amy Henderson: By bike.

Georgina Jeffries

Interior designer

What are you most looking forward to seeing in Copenhagen?

Georgina Jeffries: As much as I’m looking forward to all the events and exhibitions for 3daysofdesign, I have never been to Copenhagen, so I’m keen to experience the city, its architecture and interiors.

What neighbourhood are you most keen to explore—and why?

Georgina Jeffries: Charlottenlund, located a few kilometres north of Copenhagen, is home to Ordrupgaard, a renowned museum dedicated mainly to modern and French Impressionist art, and designed by Zaha Hadid. Close to this museum is the House of Finn Juhl, so I will get on my bike and take a ride out there for sure.

Of all the places to stay in the city, which one would be your pick?

Georgina Jeffries: We are staying at Villa Copenhagen, which looks pretty wonderful. Audohouse would be next on the list.

Where will you begin your mornings, coffee in hand?

Georgina Jeffries: Always coffee, so perhaps a new destination every day. The Roe, Atelier September, Orsa, Itallo Coffee…and then to Juno for a cardamon bun!

Is there a historic site you’re hoping to visit?

Georgina Jeffries: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.

Which exhibitions, stores or releases are on your list?

Georgina Jeffries: We have a very busy schedule thanks to the incredible team at the ARTL—NE who have organised our calendar. De la Espada, &Tradition showroom, sculptor Nicholas Shurey, and the Tekla store.

Which gallery or museum are you most drawn to?

Georgina Jeffries: Oooh, so many. I’m excited to visit the Rudolph Tegners Museum and Statue Park, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Copenhagen’s Blue Planet building, housing the largest aquarium in Northern Europe and designed by architects 3XN, is also on my list.

Anything you have your eye on to bring home with you?

Georgina Jeffries: I never set out to bring anything home with me when I travel, but it’s hard to go past vintage pieces or one-of-a-kind items that you can’t find elsewhere. These are always the best treasures, holding memories and reminding you of a place.

Is there a store or studio you’ve long wanted to visit?

Georgina Jeffries: I have always loved the interior of the Frama store from afar, and am looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere inside.

A restaurant or bar you’ve got on your hit list?

Georgina Jeffries: Cleo.

What’s one way you hope to experience Copenhagen like a local?

Georgina Jeffries: Jeans, a trench coat, bike riding through the cobbled streets. What Copenhagen dreams are made of!

Phoebe Munro: I want to visit Tivoli Gardens Amusement Park—one of the oldest amusement parks in the world.

Which gallery or museum are you most drawn to?

Phoebe Munro: Ordrupgaard in Charlottenlund, Etage Projects and SMK Museum are on my list. And of course, we have a day aside for Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

A restaurant or bar you’ve got on your hit list?

Sarah Nedovic

Artist

What are you most looking forward to seeing in Copenhagen?

Sarah Nedovic: Everything. We booked the trip for 3daysofdesign, which is described as an open festival, rather than a fair. The festival spans 13 neighbourhoods where design studios, galleries, pop-up spaces, and museums are free for the public to explore.

What neighbourhood are you most keen to explore—and why?

Sarah Nedovic: Frederiksstaden—home of GUBI, Designmuseum Danmark and District Refshaleøen, which has been described as the host of experimental installations for 3daysofdesign.

Of all the places to stay in the city, which one would be your pick?

Sarah Nedovic: We have booked a stay at Villa Copenhagen, which was recommended by a friend. The building was a former 1912 Central Post & Telegraph Office, converted into an incredible modern hotel with a famous rooftop pool.

Where will you begin your mornings, coffee in hand?

Sarah Nedovic: I might start with an espresso pod in my room to tame the jetlag followed by a coffee at Prolog Coffee or Rug Bakery, which are just around the corner from Villa Copenhagen.

Is there a historic site you’re hoping to visit?

Sarah Nedovic: There will be no shortage of incredible historical sites as we explore the city. One I have looked into is Rundetaarn (The Round Tower). Originally, it was built as an observatory tower in the 17th century. It now hosts exhibitions and concerts as a space where history, art, and science meet.

Which gallery or museum are you most drawn to?

Sarah Nedovic: The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art—not technically in Copenhagen but I am excited to see the sculpture park with works by Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Jean Arp, and Max Ernst.

Anything you have your eye on to bring home with you?

Sarah Nedovic: A small print from a local artist—maybe something I find at V1 Gallery in the Meatpacking District.

Is there a store or studio you’ve long wanted to visit?

Sarah Nedovic: I am excited to visit Studio Arhoj and Inge Vincent’s studio, both spaces are retail stores and open ceramic studios where customers can see the making process. I have heard that you can often find Vincent at the wheel throwing porcelain bowls in her Jægersborggade studio.

A restaurant or bar you’ve got on your hit list?

Sarah Nedovic: Travelling as a group of five we have booked a few restaurants but I am equally excited to visit Torvehallerne food market and try some local stalls and produce.

What’s one way you hope to experience Copenhagen like a local?

Sarah Nedovic: Riding through the city on a bike and exploring the city at a slower pace.

Sunday Ganim

Textile designer

What are you most looking forward to seeing in Copenhagen?

Sunday Ganim: None of us have ever visited Copenhagen before and we decided to visit during 3daysofdesign when the city comes alive with events and openings. We have a jam-packed schedule visiting showrooms, shows and events and I am looking forward to taking it all in from the relaxed vista of a bicycle!

What neighbourhood are you most keen to explore—and why?

Sunday Ganim: Christianshavn and the canals. I’m excited to see the traditional production methods of the craft and artisan workshops and how they may be used in a modern way.

Of all the places to stay in the city, which one would be your pick?

Sunday Ganim: We are staying at Villa Copenhagen, which was recommended by a friend. However, it would be fun to stay on the canal if we ever go back one day.

Where will you begin your mornings, coffee in hand?

Sunday Ganim: A morning dip in the rooftop pool, then a visit to Juno the Bakery for some sweet treats, and a strong coffee before a day of exploring the city.

Is there a historic site you’re hoping to visit?

Sunday Ganim: Not necessarily a traditional historical monument but I love a theme park and the Tivoli Gardens is one of the oldest in the world.

Which exhibitions, stores or releases are on your list?

Sunday Ganim: As a textile designer and lover of colour, I’m excited to see what the minds behind Kvadrat and Vitra create for their collaborative installation. Also Nanimarquina’s latest rug collection, the New Mags book launch, some traditional weaving classes, and an exhibition by BIG Architects centred around seven materials.

Which gallery or museum are you most drawn to?

Sunday Ganim: The Louisiana Museum of Art—no surprises here! To catch a glimpse of works by a stable of stellar 21st century artists is a no-brainer but also the chance to take the day, jump on a train into the countryside and experience the gardens, the Giacometti Collection, and soak up the stereo sound of colours in front of huge The Grand Canyon by David Hockney.

Anything you have your eye on to bring home with you?

Sunday Ganim: Things always catch your eye when travelling and the most treasured ones that make it home often come in unexpected forms and when you least expect them…I will have my eyes peeled.

Is there a store or studio you’ve long wanted to visit?

Sunday Ganim: There are so many. Vitra Showroom, Frama, Tekla, Kvadrat, Mater and Andreas Samuelsson studio to name a few.

A restaurant or bar you’ve got on your hit list?

Sunday Ganim: Again, you’re spoilt for options on the food front and the list is growing daily; Apotek 57 at Frama, Atelier September, Cleo, Bottega Estadio and Villette for food and Pompette for a vino.

What’s one way you hope to experience Copenhagen like a local?

Sunday Ganim: A dip in the harbour after some drinks and locally sourced plates at La Banchina on a Sunday afternoon.
