Rustle up a ruler for a kitchen refresh with a built-in sense
of satisfaction.

In association with Resene.

Creating a snazzy tile-effect splashback is a cost-effective way to add colour and tile-like texture to your kitchen, without the actual tiles. We created this simple grid pattern using Resene colours and 1.7cm-wide painter’s tape.
Paint the entire splashback area with two to three coats of a single colour — we used Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom in Resene Merino. When dry, mask out your grid. Place vertical strips 3cm apart, measuring as you go and pressing down the edges of the tape firmly, then divide the grid in thirds horizontally. Apply two to three coats of a second colour — we used Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom in Resene Just Dance. When dry, carefully remove the tape.
Continue your kitchen refresh by painting your cabinetry. We paired our benchtop in Resene Raging Bull with the deep blue of Resene Coast.
If you’re painting melamine cabinets, prepare the surface with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer first; for timber cabinets, smooth any roughness by sanding before you start.
