As part of our Definitive Design Products series, architect Susi Leeton, founder of her eponymous Melbourne-based studio, shares her noteworthy selection for 2025—spanning seating, materials, accessories, finishes, lighting, and kitchen appliances.

Our ‘Definitive Design Products’ series was first featured inside est magazine issue 56: ‘Living Connection’.

01. Maxalto Kalos Armchair

“It’s elegant, poised, and such a beautiful, gentle shape,” Leeton says of the Maxalto Kalos armchair by Italian architect Antonio Citterio. Its leather or fabric upholstery makes it “also beautiful to sit in, especially with its matching footstool.”

02. Arflex Strips Sofa

Designed in 1968 by Italian architect and designer Cini Boeri—whose work consistently sought to improve the quality of life—the Arflex Strips sofa is, for Leeton, “so flexible, casual and incredibly comfortable while having a fabulous vintage presence.”

03. Cassina 412 Cab Chair

The Cassina 412 Cab chair by Italian architect and designer Mario Bellini features tubular steel and stretch leather fastened with four zips. “I particularly love these dining chairs as they age,” Leeton says. “They reveal a patina from dinners past.”

04. Dinesen Limed Oak

Leeton is particularly drawn to Danish brand Dinesen‘s limed oak flooring. “Their colour and width provide a gentle, earthy base,” she shares. “I love the fact that these boards are the result of a family’s sustainable foresting and deep respect for Mother Nature.”

05. Brodware Roma Bronze Manhattan Basin Set

As far as finishes go, Leeton’s loyalty lies in Brodware’s Australian-made Roma bronze, describing it as “the perfect warm tone—not too gold, not too copper, just soft and gentle.” With its weathered brass look and durable PVD coating, it’s her go-to when specifying the Manhattan basin set.

06. Halcyon Lake Chromatic Duo II Sage

The Australian-made Halcyon Lake Chromatic Duo II Sage rug is “a beautiful rug created from a subtle combination of blue-green hues,” Leeton says. Its depth comes from an age-old hand-knotting technique from Central Anatolia, followed by seven washes to bring out the wool’s natural sheen and variation.

07. Pittella Maralina Como Pull

Inspired by the curves of Italy’s Lake Como, the Como Pull handle by Italian and Australian-based Pittella is, as Leeton puts it, a “beautiful, simple handle.” It can be used as a door pull, handle or even a hook.

08. Signorino Quartzite Cristallo Rosa

“My favourite stone at the moment is the Cristallo Rosa Quartzite from Signorino,” Leeton shares. With delicate white veining through a translucent pale pink base, it comes in honed, polished, brushed and leathered finishes. “I always find it incredible that it comes out of the Earth after so many thousands of years.”

09. Flos Tab LED F

“Functional, indirect light perfect for reading a book” is how Leeton describes the Flos Tab LED F light, designed by British design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. It features an adjustable aluminium head and stem, with a body made from painted pressed aluminium.

10. Dulux Venetian Plaster – Marmorino Fine

Crafted from marble powders and slaked lime, Australian-made Dulux Marmorino polished plaster is baked in wood-fired kilns and aged for 8–10 months. Leeton notes, “It gives a gentle vibration of light to a space, and is especially lovely on the ceiling, where it helps blur the edges of the room.”

11. Gaggenau Oven 400 Series

When it comes to kitchen design, Leeton doesn’t stray far from trusted favourites—“Gaggenau, for its robust presence in a kitchen,” she says. With a legacy dating back to 17th-century Germany, Gaggenau is renowned for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship and innovative technology.

12. Bialetti Moka Express

For Leeton, nothing beats the Italian-made Bialetti Moka Express for “making the best coffee.” Designed in 1933 by Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti—whose iconic moustached image still appears on the label—its distinctive form has barely changed in nearly a century.
