After years of absence, I was finally back in Paris last month. The city where I can wander around for hours, just like in my own city of Amsterdam. It was a quick 48 hours with the Thalys there and back…. and every time I make the three-hour trip I wonder why I don’t do this more often. I was finally back in Paris at the invitation of imm. With the first train I arrived in Paris very early, with a must-visit list in my pocket and enough time to stroll through the various neighbourhoods. The sky was blue and the terraces were packed, definitely the Paris I love and have missed. Of course I did a tour through the Marais, with a late lunch at Merci. I finally visited the Mad et Len showroom, and got a super sweet tour of the Parisian Rick Owens showroom. A small version of the store in Milan complete with a lifelike wax figure of the man himself.
OGATA
The best surprise of my visit to Paris, and a tip from my friend Yulia, was OGATA. Located at a 17th century mansion, OGATA is a world full of beauty and serenity. With a sabō (Japanese tea room), a restaurant, a shop and a gallery. A unique experience, and a gateway to another art of living.
The restaurant was closed but we were allowed to have a look inside. What followed was pure beauty, from the entrance to the gallery, the small details, accessories and the shop.
A total Experience
Tasting tea, sharing a meal, using an object, aesthetic appreciation and intellectual reflection – OGATA gives new forms to each practice of daily life, in a resolutely contemporary perspective. Tea, cuisine, crafts, hospitality, culture: OGATA offers a total experience based on these five pillars. Definitely my new favourite spot in Paris and definitely a place I want to return for dinner next time.
Shibunkaku collection
OGATA hosts in its gallery works of post-war Japan from the prestigious Shibunkaku collection, a major gallery founded in Kyoto in 1937. Important works by masters of painting and calligraphy still rarely exhibited in France, are presented according to an original scenography.

OGATA ATELIER AND SHOP
At the OGATA atelier and shop you will find a minimal selection for the home and kitchen of different materials, such as porcelain, pottery, iron, copper and more. Next to the restaurant and Tea room the shop also offers a selection of tea and homemade sweets as well as a selection of wagashi imported from Japan.
