This exquisite Park Avenue Penthouse was designed by Søren Rose Studio for a Swiss-American couple who use it for their base when visiting New York. The 6,000 sq ft residence combines traditional Scandinavian design – including iconic furniture by Fritz Hansen – with remarkable contemporary elements, including a dark Verde Alpi marble wall which stretches all the way to the rooftop. A rich and dramatic feature, the marble was used by Mies Van der Rohe for his famous Barcelona Pavilion, which Søren Rose sourced from the exact same Quarry in the Alps.

Marrying the past with the present, the apartment delivers an easy elegance and reflects a deep appreciation for context and detail. The thoughtful curation of furniture includes the Fritz Hansen Swan™ sofa and Egg™ chair by Arne Jacobsen. The Swan Sofa™ and Swan™ chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, are devoid of straight lines, making them organic and soft to the eye despite their simplicity and strong architectural appeal. A staple of Danish design with organic curves that take on different ethos in every leather, fabric and colour, the Egg™ chair is recognised worldwide as an essential modern design, one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s legendary career, and a technical achievement in craftsmanship.

The discrete and elegant PK22™ chair exemplifies Poul Kjærholm’s vision and search for the ideal form and dimension. The profile of the steel frame originates from the PK25™, Kjærholm’s graduation project at the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen.
