I was first intrigued by a flower dyeing technique when a couple of years ago I read an article about this artist, Cara Marie Piazza, who takes bridal bouquets and dyes the brides’ dresses using the flowers from the bouquets to make them a keepsake by using a steaming technique. Needless to say I was stunned.

Since then, my interest into eco printing has been slowly growing and now I am at a stage where it is focused on flower pounding. I quite detest the name to be honest because it sounds brutal and in fact it is, because you actually pound or hammer the flowers onto fabric. I found many tutorials and they are all linked below.

Have you tried any similar dyeing technique? I hope I find the time this summer to try both – steam and pounding.
