Like myself, are you the kind of DIY enthusiast who loves making little DIY trinkets for friends and family in order to make them feel appreciated? I’m like that too, so I’m always trying to think of new ideas that I can brighten their day with. Lately, I’ve been very obsessed indeed with DIY concrete crafts because there are just so many different things you can make, which is how I found myself practicing with a mould and making a little love trinket! I was so happy with the outcome that I decided to make another one and outline the steps for other people to follow along.

If you’d like to learn how this adorable concrete heart with roses was made, check out these photos and step by step instructions! If you’d prefer to follow along to a video tutorial, you can find one at the end of this post.

For this project, you’ll need:

  • DIY fine particle cement
  • Water
  • Paint (green, red, and bronze)
  • A paintbrush
  • A spoon
  • A plate
  • A silicone form

Step 1:

Gather your materials!

Step 2:

Pour your water into your concrete mixture and stir it with your spoon. Follow the instructions on your packaging to get the correct ratio of water to powder mix, since it can vary from brand to brand.

Step 3:

Once your concrete is mixed, spoon it into your mould. Fill the mould to the top, nice and evenly. Set the filled mould aside to dry.

Step 4:

Once the concrete in the mould has dried all the way through, carefully pop it out of the casing.

Step 5:

Use your find tipped paint brush to fill in the indentations of the letters so the message (mine said “I love you”) stands out nice and clearly against the rest of the concrete heart.

Step 6:

Clean your brush or grab another one and use your red paint to give colour to the raised flowers on your heart.

Step 7:

Now, use your green paint to add colour to your leaves. Set the whole thing aside to dry once more.

You’re all finished! Of course, you can choose whatever mould and whatever paint colours you please, if you have a different design than this in mind or can’t find a similar mould. Just in case you’d like to try this project out for yourself, here’s a fantastic tutorial video to help you!
