One of the other galleries that caught my eye when visiting Deco-off and Maison & Objet last week was Parsa.
A unique furniture project born from the collaboration of Shiva Shayan and Thomas Vlach, driven by their shared passion for design and natural stone. Shiva, an Iranian-born editor with exclusive access to her country’s exceptional stone quarries, brings her rich cultural heritage to the project. As artistic director, Thomas is the visionary behind the Parsa furniture collection, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Launched in 2020, Parsa has evolved through several phases, including close collaboration with local artisans, the careful selection of materials, and an ongoing refinement of its initial concepts. At its core, Parsa aims to shine a light on the often-overlooked craftsmanship of Iran—once the cradle of Persian art and design. Today, Iranian artisans continue to pass down their ancestral knowledge, reinterpreting it in modern creations that honor tradition while embracing innovation.
BAM Tables
Inspired by an architectural detail of the eponymous city, the Bam collection plays with the repetition of its notches, which imbue the ensemble with a clockwork precision. Crafted from massive hand-cut and polished travertine stone, the collection features a high table, a low table, and a side table.
