Next Wednesday, we’ll be launching our 50th issue of est magazine. We’re honouring 50 of the most iconic homes to be featured in our digital magazine to celebrate this milestone. We’ve just revisited issues 20-29, bringing us to issues 30-39, where we explore 19 exceptional home stories. From a nature-focused Melbourne home in issue 30 to a moody East Hampton retreat in issue 39, these homes have stood the test of time.

08. Davies Street by studiofour

We got a glimpse into this nature-focused home in Malvern, Melbourne, on the cover of issue 30, designed by Australian architects studiofour. All of the issues since have shed light on the intrinsic relationship between buildings and nature, culminating in our latest release, ‘Force of Nature‘.

09. Pepper Tree House by Atelier Alwill and Luigi Rosselli Architects

In issue 32, we stepped inside Australian fashion designer Camilla Freeman-Topper’s (Camilla and Marc) Sydney home. An extension of her innate style, the iconic home is one of numerous collaborations we’ve since witnessed between Australian interior design studio Atelier Alwill and Luigi Rosselli Architects.

10. Watch Hill House by Studio Giancarlo Valle

Fast forward to issue 33, and North American interior designer firm Studio Giancarlo Valle delivered this striking summer house in Rhode Island, New York, reflecting the client’s love of avant-garde art, fashion and design.

11. Monochrome House by Niels Maier

In issue 33, we marvelled at Dutch interior designer Niels Maier’s transformation of a grand 13th-century estate in Maastricht, the Netherlands, which spoke to the enduring appeal of a monochrome palette.

12. Patio House by OOAK

This iconic green kitchen graced the cover of issue 33. Located within a Greek summer home designed by Swedish architects OOAK, the kitchen captured unparalleled views over the Aegean Sea.

13. Malvern Residence 2 by Doherty Design Studio

At the beginning of 2020, we produced our first residential film – a reimagined 1980s home in Malvern, Melbourne, designed by Australian interior design firm Doherty Design Studio – released as part of an entire home tour inside issue 35.

14. My Space | Stephen Crafti

In issue 36, released during a time when in-person home visits weren’t viable, we virtually visited the homes of global architects, designers and creatives. One of those homes was est contributing writer Stephen Crafti’s Belgian-inspired Melbourne home, designed by Australian firm Robert Simeoni Architects.

15. At Home with Athena Calderone

North American designer Athena Calderone, founder of the popular lifestyle brand eyeswoon, brought est inside her chic Brooklyn townhouse in our ‘Kitchen Confidential’ feature in issue 36.

16. Where Architects Live | Mathieu Luyens and Julie Van De Keere

Belgian architects Mathieu Luyens and Julie Van De Keere, who together founded JUMA Architects, also opened their doors in issue 36 as part of our ‘Kitchen Confidential’ feature. A few months later, we featured the rest of their serene East Flanders retreat on estliving.com.

17. At Home with Pierre Yovanovitch

We continued to evolve our ‘At Home With’ series in Issue 37 as we toured the home and garden of French interior architect Pierre Yovanovitch, set in the woodlands of Provence, France.

18. Villa Mandra by K-STUDIO

We also ventured to the Greek Islands in issue 37, where Greek interior design practice K-STUDIO designed a holiday home that celebrates the region’s traditional architecture through a modern lens.

19. Twin Gables House by Ryan Leidner Architecture

Our issue 37 cover story saw North American practice Ryan Leidner Architecture reimagine a mid-century-modern home in California’s iconic Silicon Valley region.

20. Erskine House by Kennedy Nolan

The striking blue living space that embodied issue 38 – featured as part of Australian firm Kennedy Nolan’s Erskine House project in Melbourne – possesses an unshakable charisma, making it one of our most-read issues to date.

21. Where Architects Live | Madeleine Blanchfield

In issue 38, Australian architect Madeleine Blanchfield showcased her refined, pared-back style in her own home in Bronte, Sydney.

22. Canopy House by Leeton Pointon Architects + Interiors

We kicked off 2021 by recognising 20 influential names in design inside issue 39. Earning a place in the top 10 Australian designers was Leeton Pointon Architects & Interiors, whose Canopy House in Melbourne graced the cover.

23. Sussex House by Templeton Architecture

Templeton Architecture was also featured in issue 39 as one of the top 10 Australian designers, whose refined and considerate approach was revealed in a Melbourne heritage home.

24. Lindfield by Polly Harbison Design and Arent&Pyke

Polly Harbison also came in as one of the top 10 Australian designers in issue 39 with her Lindfield project, designed in collaboration with Australian interior design studio Arent&Pyke, revealing how robust materials and daily rituals drive her design approach.

This clifftop home on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, designed by Australian practice Rob Mills Architecture & Interiors, is another memorable design moment from issue 39.
