This might be my favorite pattern; the pocket kitty! It has also been my most popular pattern, with hundreds of folks downloading it. I love seeing pictures of these kitties pop up in my email, seeing all the different ways they are stitched is so much fun. The free cat sewing pattern is designed for hand sewing, uses simple embroidery stitches, and can be made in a day.

This year I went nuts and sewed four little kitties, with coordinating colors. Aren’t they festive? My kids immediately started tucking them under blankets, in pockets, and in Magna-Tile beds. If you need more ideas for Valentine’s Day softies to sew, I have a whole list in this post!
They’re a perfect Valentine’s Day gift to sew for kids, but can be played with year round! I think this kitty looks especially cute paired with the DIY Valentine’s Day shirt I made for my daughter.
I’ve had several readers email me to say they sewed up one of these kitties for their kiddo to take to school when they’re feeling lonely, which is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.
