Shae, aka She Is This, creates colorful digital illustrations that are fully in bloom. Her work features stylish portraits of Black women that are framed with flowers. Sometimes, the florals flow from headphones while in other instances, they have a lyrical way of wrapping around someone’s head. They are beautiful, and as Shae explains, intended as empowering, too. “More than art for Black girls, ‘She Is This’ is a celebration of women of all colors and beyond,” she writes. “I hope you not only see yourself in my work, but are reminded of how amazing your brown skin truly is. Because this skin, this skin is beautiful.”
