– The confident, contrasting colour palette we’ve used to decorate and define this spare bedroom/office set-up embodies the orderly appeal of the classic refill pad, with its crisp, white paper and red and blue lines. For the bedroom bit, we chose red-brown Resene Scoria to convey the warmth, comfort and cosiness required for winding down. For an energising effect in the workspace, we went for pale blue Resene Dream Big, an uplifting colour that bounces light around the room.
– Reduce a bit of clutter on your desk and gain clarity via its visibility by keeping your to-do list on the wall. We painted an A3 size rectangle above the desk in Resene Aoraki, then coated it with Resene FX Write-On Wall to turn it into a mini whiteboard you can scribble on then use a duster or soft cloth to erase.
– Replicate our shelves by purchasing standard floating shelves as well as thick rounds of dowel from your local hardware store (plus screws to attach them). We gave ours a tonal look with more Resene Dream Big, then made the supports stand out with Resene Rulebreaker, a paint we love as much for its name as its true-blue hue.
Stylist’s tip
Updating a past-its-best lampshade with paint could not be easier. Riffing off its terracotta base, we applied two generous coats of Resene Incarnadine to our secondhand lampshade (below) with a Resene testpot brush, revitalising it with a sumptuous new colour that shows off its interesting texture.
