One of my favorite things to collect is ceramics. (I’ve got an obsession with planters.) So, imagine my excitement when I saw that Kimberlie Wong, an illustrator whose digital art I’ve previously swooned over, started making things with clay. She is one part of Two Hold Studios with Alexander Clinthorne.
Together, Kimberlie and Alexander “work to each other’s strengths” and produce hand-pinched/hand painted items. Each is one of a kind; some of my favorites are the “pondering planters,” which features a figurative portrait whose hand rests on their chin. The top of their head is open for you to put succulents or air plants. Depending on what flora, they can have a rotating hairdo. And thanks to their surface treatment, the lines on each piece have a beautiful, hand-drawn pencil quality to them. They feel like one of Kimberlie’s sketches or paintings.
