In knitting, the word halo refers to an angelic visual effect created by fuzzy yarns like mohair. Yarns with a halo have a central core of fiber and a radius of fuzz. The finished fabrics knit or crochet with this type of yarn appear to have a glow around them as thin fuzz fibers catch the light. The yarn we’re looking at today, Cabrito from Manos del Uruguay, is a mohair blend with a great halo effect. This yarn is great for a contemporary take on a vintage sweater pattern or for infusing a bit of airiness into a cowl.

Skein details: approx. 230 yds / 210 m per 25g // 80% kid mohair, 20% polyamide // Lace Weight
Knitting needles: US 3-6 / 3.25-4mm // 20-26 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)
Crochet hook: Pictured: US G / 4.25 mm // 20 sts = 4 inches (10 cm)
Cons: Mohair isn’t for everyone. Pro tip: When gifting, ensure the recipient isn’t allergic.
Pros: A mohair yarn like this is so much fun to hold double with other yarns (or even other colors of the same yarn). You can play with color and texture as a maker, no design experience required!
