When we want to redecorate or update a room, we often think of big things like replacing furniture or laying new floors. But doing stuff like this means having reasonably big budgets. Instead there is one extremely budget friendly way to transform a room quickly. That is todays little decor idea for big impact – transform a room with a pot of paint.
Often when a room is looking tired or you feel you need a change, paint can be the answer. I don’t mean just for the walls but for so much more. If I was allowed to pick just one thing to transform any room, it would definitely be paint. Because the possibilities with paint are endless and you can change the look of a space quickly, easily and cheaply.

1. refresh the walls
This of course is the most obvious thing to do with paint but it still has to be mentioned. A fresh lick of paint can make a room look completely new.
2. make the room feel bigger
If you’ve got a small room, painting the walls, ceiling and trim in the same colour will make it feel bigger. This is because the edges of the room become blurred so the room appears bigger.
3. upcycle an old piece of furniture
Paint isn’t just for walls, its an easy way to transform a piece of furniture like a cabinet or a chair or any piece of furniture that can be painted. Perhaps you have furniture that’s past it’s best or maybe it doesn’t fit in with the rest of your decor… whatever your reason, a good lick of paint will be transformative.
4. match walls and furniture

5. go beyond painting furniture
There are so many things you can paint in a home to change up the look or update a tired looking room. I’m thinking things like kitchen cabinets, interior doors, wood trim and even the floor. Some of these require a bit of time and effort but you’ll get a fresh new look at a fraction of the price of replacing them.
6. make architectural features stand out
If you’re lucky enough to have a home with beautiful architectural features like ceiling mouldings or large original windows, paint is an easy way to make them really shine. My favourite way to do this is paint all the features in a crisp, bright white and go for a light neutral colour on the walls.

I nearly didn’t include this point because painting an accent wall is outdated. And I’ve never been much of a fan anyway as it can make a space look busy. But there are exceptions where it does work and so I’ve included it after all. If you’ve got a lot of white in a room and want a bit of subtle colour, an accent wall can work. Also if you have a room that’s used for different purposes, an accent wall can help create specific zones. And remember, accent walls don’t always mean painting the whole wall. Sometimes just a part of a wall is enough.
