Steel-framed windows and doors are a design element that have endured long-standing popularity in residential architecture worldwide. Beyond their timeless aesthetic appeal, it’s their robust, structural integrity and ability to create a seamless transition between classic and contemporary spaces that position them as a practical and environmentally conscious option.
Creating a soft transition between inside and out, Ganci custom-designed an ornate, yet contemporary steel-framed door in a soft sage powder-coated finish for designer Tania Handelsmann, of the acclaimed Sydney interior design studio Handelsmann + Khaw. Allowing an abundance of natural light and a flow between spaces, we explore a selection of adaptable steel-framed windows and doors from Ganci.

Located in Sydney’s Paddington neighbourhood, Tania’s own home is one of a pair of 1850s Regency-style terraces that were originally one freestanding home. “It was built before many of the surrounding Victorian terraces, which is why the architectural style is not typical of this neighbourhood,” Tania explains who lives there with her husband Andrew, children Oscar and Harper.
Shaped around a leafy courtyard and framed with floor-to-ceiling steel frame windows and doors, Tania worked closely with Ganci to custom produce a set of bi-fold doors that connect the key communal area to the outdoors. Celebrating the soft green colour and materiality palette of her home’s unique heritage, Tania turned to the team at Ganci to help her pay tribute to the heritage charm of her period home, whilst remaining streamlined and modern in form. “We love working with Alex from Ganci because of his artisanal hands-on approach, his meticulous attention to detail, and his commitment to the best quality outcome,” says Tania.
