From Melbourne-based Mim Design to Hare + Klein in Sydney, we uncover how each project incorporates a distinct scheme and layout. We also break down how their strategic selection of first-class kitchen appliances was paramount to meeting each client’s brief. Kenley Court Residence
This modern family residence was conceived by Melbourne-based architectural practice Workroom under the guidance of director John Bornas. “The home had to be warm and inviting, maintaining a balance between raw, industrial materials and considered detailing, creating a design solution that aged timelessly with the young family of six,” John says.
Relying on robust materials such as concrete, timber, and stone, this material commitment encapsulates durability and performance that extends seamlessly into the kitchen, where John has chosen state-of-the-art appliances. An unobtrusive Wolf induction cooktop offers an elegantly low profile to keep things streamlined, functional, and low maintenance on the kitchen bench. At the same time, food and drinks are stored within integrated Sub-Zero designer series all refrigerator-columns to ensure the longevity and freshness of ingredients thanks to Sub-Zero’s unique Split Climate
intelligent cooling system. Perfect for entertaining outdoors, a Wolf outdoor grill is complemented by a Wolf 33cm built-in burner module with a wood-fired pizza oven for dual functionality. “These kitchen appliances allowed us to create an environment that was minimal and refined but packed the punch of a commercial kitchen. For our clients, the pared-back aesthetic was just as important as performance, and Sub-Zero and Wolf was the only brand that could provide that,” John says.

“The Horizon Flinders kitchen has a contemporary, sculptural and coastal aesthetic, and showcases authentic and honest materials such as stone, marble and timber. As such, incorporating Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances was an obvious choice for our team.”

Horizon Flinders
Alongside a team of highly skilled craftspeople and collaborators, Mim Design was able to create unique moments throughout the kitchen of their Horizon Flinders project, such as raked stone, an island bench that appears hewn and carved from foamy white marble, and the incorporation of beautiful appliances. “We wanted to create an iconic coastal home that took cues from the surrounding clifftop bordering the expansive ocean. Therefore, it was important that the integration of products within the kitchen was led by the same design sentiment and addressed the space’s functional and aesthetic needs in equal measure,” Mim Design principal Mim Fanning says.
As a studio, Mim Design believes in restraint, refinement, and eschewing trends in favour of place-specific solutions that transcend time. In this way, they have always felt strongly aligned with the Sub-Zero and Wolf brand. “Like us, they too draw on robust materials and skilled craftsmanship to help deliver resolved spaces that ensure both style and quality,” Mim says.

“The selection of these premium appliances was driven by a commitment to providing the client’s with the highest level of functionality, durability, and reliability.”
– Hare + Klein Principal Meryl Hare
Bay House
Sydney-based interior design practice Hare & Klein was tasked with creating a striking kitchen that would remain visible from numerous vantage points within their Bay House project. “The kitchen design is integral to the overall design language of the house and is in a prominent position,” Principal Meryl Hare says. In light of this, Meryl and interior designer Kristie Nixon opted for a layout that marries simplicity and sophistication, blending clean lines with refined finishes.
Given the kitchen’s visibility within the home, Meryl and Kristie selected integrated appliances to maintain a clutter-free space. “Careful and strategic consideration of the placement and accessibility of appliances is essential for an efficient kitchen layout that is user-friendly and reflects our client’s cooking methods,” Meryl says. Behind the cabinetry is a Sub-Zero designer series all refrigerator-column, as well as the concealed dishwasher within the butler’s pantry, “The appliances seamlessly blend into the cabinetry, creating a unified and elegant appearance,” Meryl says. The Wolf 76cm M series contemporary black glass convection steam oven, Wolf contemporary M series single oven, and the Wolf induction cooktop contribute to the kitchen’s sleek aesthetic while accentuating the elegance of the adjacent marble island bench.
