A reflection of their design-led philosophies, we set foot inside Gaggenau’s newly designed Sydney flagship – created in collaboration with global architectural practice 1zu33.

Influenced by global, leading designers and renowned chefs, Gaggenau prides itself on bringing professional culinary technology to the table. An extension of this ethos, the Gaggenau Sydney Flagship celebrates its 340-year legacy in culinary arts and exceptional kitchen design. Drawing on the brand’s deep connection to the world of gastronomy and taking inspirational cues from its vibrant Surrey Hills location, the newly opened space aims to immerse guests in its storied history of craftsmanship.

With flagships featured across the globe, Gaggenau Sydney embraces a considered design approach – inspired by and deeply embedded in its location. Once serving as a post office in a bygone era, the 260-square-metre heritage building presented the perfect opportunity for a distinctive, experiential layout. Divided into two main sections, the first zone fronts the street, and the other extends further into the interior to unveil a spacious and quiet inner courtyard. The interior team at studio 1zu33’s brief was to craft an interior that lends itself to a customer experience that not only integrates seamlessly with the local architectural context but places a strong emphasis on practical functionality by featuring a multitude of touchpoints allowing visitors to feel the performance of each product as they move through the space.

Gaggenau Sydney has been carefully orchestrated to honour the brand’s luxurious range of kitchen appliances by exemplifying an intersection between luxury design, exceptional craftsmanship, and culinary ingenuity. “Gaggenau Sydney embraces a considered design approach – inspired by and deeply embedded in its location. The thoughtful combination of materiality, tone, and connection to nature curates an experience that will leave a lasting impression,” 1zu33 founder and CEO Hendrik Müller says.

Upon entering the showroom, visitors are welcomed with a bold exhibition space titled ‘The Social Hub,’ featuring a richly textured and dark ambience achieved through hand-applied plaster finish, Black Douglas fir boards, lineal textured wall tiles, and blackened steel joinery cladding. While this area is intended for hosting guests and fostering social interactions, it also creates an opportunity to showcase the outstanding design and craftsmanship embodied in Gaggenau appliances.

Towards the rear of the flagship, ‘The Home of Gaggenau’ adopts a softer colour palette, featuring oak flooring, walnut cabinetry, a lime-washed ceiling, and expansive stone countertops, creating a space that exudes a comforting feeling. A fully functional chef’s kitchen showcases Gaggenau’s premium 400 series kitchen appliances.

Connecting both areas is the core of Gaggenau’s heritage, known as ‘The Difference.’ This intimate chamber highlights unique materials, including iron ore, cobalt, and silicium, which mirror the brand’s evolution.
