Great Dane has been bringing the best of Scandinavian design to Australian shores for two decades. The retail brand houses design classics from masters like Hans J. Wegner and Verner Panton, as well as emerging names from Denmark and Sweden. Their showrooms have always celebrated this intersection between classic and new, imparting the rich and layered stories behind each design. Now, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth locals aren’t the only ones to enjoy Great Dane’s offering, with Brisbane recently joining the ranks. 

Great Dane recently cut the ribbon on their new Fortitude Valley outpost, offering Brisbane locals the chance to experience Scandinavian design on their home turf. Being situated on an up-and-coming street for designers and creatives – with art galleries, architects’ offices and other retail spaces all within walking distance – visitors are encouraged to stay a while and see where the day takes them.

Director Anton Assaad says the new space will redefine the notion of a luxury design showroom in Australia. “The showroom has been designed to feel like a home. Customers become a part of it and are treated like family, crafting their own journey and learning about the makers,” he says.

Unlike Melbourne and Sydney, which share a darker colour palette and moody atmosphere, the Brisbane showroom features lighter tones and a more airy atmosphere – a distinctly ‘Brisbane feel’. Natural light filters in through large windows and louvred skylights and the red brick facade has been lovingly restored to its former glory.
