Styling, stories and spaces — Alice Lines has created one place to share her work.
In association with Squarespace.
Remember when being an editor meant red pens and late-night deadlines? Well, not anymore. In the modern media landscape, my role at homestyle now requires a vast suite of creative hats. Conceptualising and crafting content to share with our audience in print and online is a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Storytelling is at the heart of what we do, and our business has evolved to offer this as a service for others too. Functioning like a boutique creative agency, we collaborate with clients to build and share their brand stories.
Some days, I’m deep in conversations with architects, artists and designers. On others, I’ll be on location or in the studio styling photoshoots. And in amongst this I engage in interior design projects too.
At times, it’s been a challenge to capture the many aspects of this role, and building a website to showcase my range of work has been a goal for a long time. With so many projects on the go, curating my portfolio kept getting shuffled to the bottom of the to-do list. But having a website — rather than relying solely on social media platforms — felt like a better way to share the services that we offer at homestyle. This realisation led me to take the leap — enter Squarespace. With their intuitive design tools, anyone can build an easy-to-edit website without coding. At last I was able to create an online space that mirrors my aesthetic values: a simple, timeless layout that elegantly presents my projects across styling, stories and spaces. The process was easier and more enjoyable than I expected. I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner!
My custom grid adds an editorial touch to the website. Photography varies in size to display my styling work, while the stories I’ve produced and written are shared in a more structured fashion, for clarity.
For newcomers, Squarespace offers templates that simplify the process, and there’s a mood to reflect however you might want to present yourself online.
Balancing working from home and travelling monthly, I value the flexibility to manage and update my website from anywhere in Aotearoa, or the world.
Reflecting on my career isn’t something I do often, yet making this digital portfolio offered a moment of introspection and appreciation for my creative journey.
With the website now live, I feel re-energised and ready for new projects. I’m looking forward to connecting with local creatives and cultivating opportunities for inspiring collaborations.
