As promised, I am sharing the tutorial on how to install a stair runner this week! I shared my stairwell makeover post last week and now I’m sharing how you can add your own stair runner in pretty easily. Once all of the tedious painting and everything was finally finished, the stair runner only took a few hours to measure and put in! And it cost under $150 total!

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy my feet are going up and down these stairs now! These poor little white stairs were in desperate need of some help for a long time now. And these vintage inspired runners were the perfect fix! I kept things super simple and did not add in any pads underneath or anything because the stairs are already very narrow and steep. And I think it worked really well!

How to Install a Stair Runner – Supplies Needed:

• Runners (I needed two 12′ runners, you will need to measure beforehand to know how many you will need – make sure you account for trimming off the borders on the rugs if necessary)
• Tape Measure
• Pencil
• Staple Gun
• 1/4″ x 3/4″ Crown Staples
• Carpet Stair Tucking Tool
• Utility Knife
• I also needed Instabind because of the shape of my stairwell at the top
