Often drawing inspiration from the rustic terrain of America’s Pacific Northwest, Oregon-based interior design firm
Pronghorn takes in views of the central Oregon desert, surrounded by mountains characteristic of the region, rendering it an ideal destination for a ‘home away from home’. Light and Dwell principal designer Molly Kidd says Pronghorn’s serene location served as a “guide for crafting comfortable yet refined living spaces” that encapsulate the ease and tranquillity of a holiday home.
Light and Dwell lifted cues from the home’s natural surroundings for the interiors, “mirroring the harmony found in the outdoors,” Molly says. The main living areas resemble the landscape by employing a raw yet refined material palette of natural timber, tactile linens, textured stone and exposed brick. Large steel frame windows douse the space with natural light, further highlighting the palette. “We introduced contrast by incorporating a dark exterior but still embraced the rugged surroundings through our selected textures,” Molly adds.
The kitchen exemplifies the home’s rustic charm, blending soapstone – a non-negotiable in the space – marble and timber cabinetry. Beyond the custom dining nook, Molly included pieces from their own Light and Dwell collection, such as the Frankie stools and Charli nightstands, alongside a mix of contemporary and vintage pieces.
Integral to the client’s brief was not including a television in the living room to further encourage an appreciation for the surroundings. The home’s private living spaces also encourage repose, acting as intimate moments of reflection. The light-filled, spacious main bedroom allows the clients to unwind – a parent’s retreat away from the playful six-bunk children’s bedroom.
