CM Studio introduce a contemporary addition and abundance of natural light to a terrace home in Glebe, New South Wales.

Nestled among the rows of Glebe terrace homes, Darghan Terrance by CM Studio is a light-filled inner-city home that explores texture, tone and timeless design.

Reimagined to meet a young family’s needs, CM Studio have welcomed light and spaciousness in a way that captures the home’s district aspect over the neighbouring terraces. Inspired by sophisticated yet contemporary London terrace renovations and in keeping with the heritage requirements of the locale, CM Studio retained the façade while sensitively inserting an addition at the rear — strong in its own identity and not at all visible from the street.

As long-time friends of the studio, the homeowners “shared a sensibility of liveable but beautifully designed spaces,” CM Studio managing director Megan Burns says. As envisaged from the outset, “the home feels calm and sanctuary-like while still being a part of the city,” she adds.

Welcoming ‘challenge as opportunity’ in the boundary-to-boundary plan and subsequent lack of windows, CM Studio incorporated skylight openings throughout the design. At the same time, soft textures and tones create a softness to the internal and external spaces, encouraging a connection with the courtyard.

The kitchen features custom ottomans and upholstery by Tow and Line and the Nemo Lighting Lampe De Marseille.

“We opted to utilise a palette of tonal, timeless and hard-wearing finishes,” Megan says. Oak, bricks and stone were used throughout the kitchen and living spaces, while micro cement evokes a sense of calm and tranquillity in the bathroom that echoes throughout the entirety of the home.

Darghan Terrace by CM Studio balances light, space and proportion, inspiring a life of quiet comfort and joy for the growing family who reside there.
