Set within generous grounds, College Park Residence sees an expansion of an existing heritage home to embed a contemporary relevance for a growing family setting. carefully reworked the established home to create an expanded retreat area that weaves itself among an established vine, anchoring the rear of the home.
Situated to the front of the site, the additions to the home needed to be recessive, to bolster its presence. In transforming the formally separated planning within, an approach of openness streamlines movement between zones, and between inside and out.
Needing to store a treasured collection of contemporary and classic cars, integrating a supporting garage space with an overall vision posed its challenges. Wanting to not disturb or dwarf the home by way of it becoming a car storage facility, the solution instead is one of disguise and containment. Hidden behind the blackened frontage, a combination of stacking solutions and clever planning awaits.
With the Victorian-era home remaining the main residence, an addition to the rear injects a modern liveability to the site. In creating a bookend, the humble addition completes the activation of the landscape. Integrated among an existing vine, an outdoor dining and entertaining area becomes a celebration of outdoor living and the owners’ Mediterranean connection.
The reconfiguration of the kitchen to include three dedicated islands aligns the home with a focus on family life, creating space for cooking and sharing meals. Concealing other supporting amenities and adding storage, joinery, and hidden access doorways peppered throughout the interior further ensures the focus remains on the fusion of ornate detailing among the contemporary.
Accessed by way of an outdoor covered walkway, the two-level addition is a retreat and multifunctional space that allows the family to breathe. Intentionally flexible in its function, the generous levels extend the original volumes established within the main home. have transformed College Park Residence through a contemporary lens to create an open conversation with the landscape that binds old and new.
The upper level of the addition opens fully to the surrounds, yet the moveable screens allow a veil of privacy and ventilation to naturally cool the spaces.
