The apartment was created for a family of four who like to divide their time between Amsterdam and other neighbouring European cities throughout the year. The layout maximises views of the home’s garden and surroundings, embracing the bustling neighbourhood and becoming part of its fabric. The windows that wrap around the home feature sheer curtains for during the day and thicker curtains for during the night, ensuring a balance between connection and privacy.

The kitchen emerges as the heart of the home – a space in which the family can gather or entertain guests. Meticulously crafted by Framework, the custom-designed space showcases terrazzo benchtops complemented by stainless-steel fronts and wall tiles in vibrant yellow and off-white hues. The distinctive palette reflects the living room on the other side of the passage, where the ceiling and walls are painted in a calming canary yellow.

The passage doubles as an art room, where Framework has opted for a dynamic shade of Yves Klein blue to create drama and contrast. A large rectangular skylight casts shapes of light across the blue walls, while a pair of vintage Oscar Niemeyer lounge chairs draw the eye with their classic forms.

The home’s furniture reflects the client’s and designers’ discerning taste. Sculptural pieces like the Vladimir Kagan Serpentine sofa and Rito Valla Mercury swell lounge chair command attention in the home’s gallery-like living space. This feeling of being inside a museum is enhanced by art pieces like Roger Desserprit’s concrete sculpture in the passage and Willem Thijs’ mirror sculpture in the dining space – homage to the city’s vibrant art scene.
