I love adding touches of natural greenery to my Christmas decor. I’ve played around with a few different types of greenery, but I keep coming back to eucalyptus. It’s one of my absolute favourites as not only is it beautiful, but the smell is heavenly. And I haven’t found anything better yet. If you have some other favourites, please share.
Each year I make something with eucalyptus. Last year it was a vertical hanging garland which proved to be super popular. This year I decided to make another simple eucalyptus garland, but this years is horizontal and is perfect to hang above your dining table or on an empty wall anywhere in your home. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing my dining room smells at the moment.
EUCALYPTUS GARLAND DIY
Materials:
eucalyptus stems
green florists wire
jute twine/string
1. Double up the twine to whatever length you want your garland and tie it at the end. The doubling up gives the twine extra strength.
2. Cut your eucalyptus so that you have fairly long stems. Start attaching these stems horizontally on to the twine, using the florists wire to secure them. I attached each stem in about 3 places – both the ends and the middle.
3. Once you’ve gone the length of your garland, start again with more stems and keep attaching more until your garland looks abundant. I ended up doing this about 3 times.
4. If there are any patches that are looking a bit sparse, add a few more small stems to fill them in.
The best part of eucalyptus is that even once it dries out, it still looks great and smells good. So this is a decoration you can make in advance and keep for a while over the festive holiday season.
