DIY a Stone Path in The Garden

A nicely arranged stone path can give a special charm to your backyard. To make a path like this yourself, you need materials like stones, which look nice and are practical for walking, a rake, shovel, rubber mallet, trowel, fine sand, wooden slats, a soft brush etc.
For building your stone path the first thing you need to do is to prepare and clear the area where you are planning to have the path from the small stones and the roots.. Then mark the places where you plan to place the stones to determine the distance between them before you start preparing the base for the stones. The distance between the stones should be approximate one step long.
The next step is to dig holes 2 cm deeper than the height of each of the stones you will be placing. Then put a layer of 1.5 cm of fine sand in each hole. Set the stones and you are done. To place the stones, use a rubber mallet, with which you can freely hit the stone (without damaging and breaking it) until it fits well in the intended space.
If you plan to make a concrete path with the stones, they should be slightly higher than the ground level, and if you want to sow grass in the space between the stones, they should be about 1 cm below the ground level, so that you can easily mow the grass around the stones.
After you have placed the stones, check that all of them are at the same height. You will do this most easily with a wooden slat, which you will place across the path and thus you will see if all the stones are placed at the same height. Make corrections if you need.
If you want the stone path to be concreted, prepare the concrete mixture and start applying it around the stones, but during concreting, pay attention to the leveling in relation to the stones. The concrete frame and stones should be at the same height. But if you want to plant grass in the space between the stones, at this stage you should spread a thin layer of fine soil, which you will tamp down nicely so that there is no empty space around the edges of the stones.
