When it comes to choosing the different interior design elements it always makes sense aesthetically to try and echo the existing structural components of the home. With this in mind, you’ll notice that the quadratic charcoal sofa set compliments the gridded gun metal grey cupboards which unite the kitchen and the dining space.

The rough finish of the sofa set’s upholstery not only hides dirt and is extremely durable, but it also serves to harmonize visually with the marble steps that lead into the open unpartitioned space that serves as the living room, kitchen, and dining area. As for the “coffee table”, this design element connects the ground floor to the upper level in an ingenious way—its cubic geometry matches the sofa, its marble finish matches the surface of the steps, but its peachy hues are closer on the color scale to the unfinished wood of the Slats and beams in the ceiling and the floor boards.

And that’s not even the coolest thing about this “coffee table”. I’ve used the “scare quotes” because as you can see this is not your ordinary coffee table; instead of being one solid, four legged piece this coffee table is comprised of nine separate cubes. This modular aspect of the coffee table the home owner is able to move the individual blocks around as needed—whether it be for extra seating during a dinner party, a side table to rest a drink or book, or what have you.

The adjacent rooms break up the overall color scheme with bright throw rugs and brightly colored traditional Ukranian motifs on the tiles.

Overall, this project is modern and minimalist yet still retains a sense of playfulness and fun. Too much of today’s interior design is too stark and austere. Yes, less is more, but does it all have to be so serious all the time?
