Artist Bird Can Fox, aka Liz Davies, has a simple formula for creating her illustrated ceramics. “Ceramics + illustration x color + pattern,” she declares. Her creature characters follow this idea, being both functional and charming in their surface decoration. The likes of lions, bears, and llama are adorned with abstract patterning and gold accents, and some even carry tiny pots on their back to double as planters.
They tend to be a little wonky in their forms; Liz says that she loves “squidging clay,” and her animal ceramics celebrate the beautiful variation that comes from working by hand.
Liz sells her work in the Bird Can Fox Etsy shop. She’s announced, on her Instagram, that there’s a store update on Saturday, August 18, so get ready!
