Summer is almost here and in anticipation of my own holidays I am enjoying the first vacation images of people I follow online. What caught my eye were the images with colourful and white boldly striped cushions, mattresses and Parasol like those used at the Cote d’Azur and Italian seaside villages for decades.

When walking along the Bijenkorf, the most iconic department store in my hometown, I couldn’t miss the new shop windows. Striped parasols in all kinds of colors and dito wallpaper and decorative objects. I took some pictures and will post a few on my Instagram if you like to see.

Mediterranean vibes at Palazzo Bovara

In your garden or balcony one of these striped parasols or lovely cushions will immediately put you in the right summer mood. But if you want to bring that ultimate Mediterranean Summer feeling indoors, I have some super nice ideas for you.

For this I need to go back to Milan Design week where at Palazzo Bovara, Elle Decor Italia presented ‘The Art of Light’ An exhibition I really enjoyed. I also discovered some pieces of CContinua in the exhibition, find some pieces of this Italian ceramist in my online store: Ceramics & Objects at vosgesparis’ online store

Summer chic at the Restaurant at Palazzo Bovara

At the restaurant it were the tiles and the combination with the striped fabric on the benches I fell in love with… something I could instantly bring into my own home.  The restaurant was designed by Giuliano dell’Uva as a tribute to the interiors of Piero Portaluppi’s Milanese home together with Partner Belmond, a British company that operates in the tourism sector. Its set-up aimed to remind visitors of the illusion of having lunch on a sunny terrace, surrounded by plants that cast pleasant shadows around.

“So I thought of recreating the same atmosphere inside one of the halls of Palazzo Bovara in an imaginary outdoor space. To underline, with the same care as a hotel, the link with the place in which we find ourselves, the reference is to the drawings for the Milanese home of Piero Portaluppi, who had overseen the restoration of the Palazzo after the Second World War and his work it also inspires the decorative motif of the hand-painted ceramics of the seats while the perimeter lighting recalls the atmosphere of the gardens of Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel in Florence” says Giuliano Dell’Uva in an interview with Elle Decor Italia.

Capri La Piazzetta – Christian Fischbacher

The fabric used on the benches is Capri La Piazzetta and designed by Giuliano Dell’Uva for Christian Fischbacher, a family-owned company with headquarters in St. Gallen Switzerland, a centre for the textile industry since the 13th century. This small-scale stripe takes its cue from stripes seen in Capri’s restaurants and bars in the bustling piazzas. An enduring and timeless design, a regular white stripe alternates with the plain background with an almost embossed effect thanks to the interweaving of black warp threads that outline it.

‘Capri’, is a capsule collection, available in five colours, of refined and versatile furnishing fabrics, classically designed and beautifully crafted, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The island of Capri has been a recurring source of inspiration for dell’Uva, who hails from Naples. Paying tribute to the island, its intense colours and its extraordinary nature, dell’Uva was inspired by the legendary island’s vibrant sun- washed landscape and the golden era of 1970s Capri which saw the international jet set escape to the island to enjoy its natural beauty, its grand parties, and its artistic sophistication, the range of furnishing fabrics is designed to bring a touch of Island life to any setting.
