Not many people will be attracted to a run-down home, especially if the interior is somewhat beyond repair. Apparently, many people tend to focus on a house that is already developed to look as appealing as possible. However, the case is different for devoted designers, especially those who enjoy living in a space that is customized to satisfy their desire. Alison Jennison, managed to transform an extremely rustic home into a modern space that is quite welcoming.
Located in Greenpoint, this 1890 building was dark, dull, and basically outdated. Nonetheless, super designer Jennison saw the hope of renovating the home and make it livable again. The house is now bright enough to enhance the aesthetic aspect and create a welcoming ambiance.
Turning every stone
The entire house has been renovated to suit the desire of the designer. The only place that was left intact, but slightly polished, was the fireplace. Most probably because a fireplace is a must-have in the recent home design; both interior and exterior. The walls were green dark, but she brought in a new white paint that brightens the space and mood in the house.
The kitchen
Moving on to the kitchen, Jennison has included a dark cabinetry, along with a wooden-based kitchen island. The kitchen island serves both as a cooking area and an eating space. She has also added three chairs that perfectly match with the countertop. The brass-accentuated shelves on the white-painted bricks help to add glamor to the kitchen.
The living room
For the living area, Jennison introduced a glass wall and utilized the flow of natural light. Initially, there was a cramped corridor that made the space look dark and overly dull. The floors are pale, and they match perfectly with the warm wood tones, as well as the white walls.
Also, there is an antique Afghan kilim that blends well with a curvy cane chair. The brown leather pillow on the chair spices up the look.
The bedroom
Just as she is a professional designer, Jennison is also an art lover, and she integrates art into the bedroom to polish the look further. She eliminated the plain and dull walls and threw in a geode-inspired wallpaper over the bed. Also, she has included several pillows on the bed to create more comfort and make it extra appealing.
Even with the new theme and design, Jennison still maintains some rustic look that makes the home cool and welcoming. The home also features plenty of artwork and other personalized elements that describe her personalities. It is made homey enough for her husband and two kids.
