“There is a lot of emotion in interior design, and so much of it comes down to how a space makes you feel,” interior designer Georgina Jeffries told est in an interview. The designer’s home on Victoria’s surf coast, which she shares with her partner Troy, daughter Dusty and dog Tarki, is designed to make her feel at ease. Infused with personal design details and found objects and art, the home is, in Georgina’s words, “full of love”.

Georgina’s home is located in Lorne, a laid-back coastal town where the sea meets the Great Otway National Park. “I love that we can live so close to the beach and feel worlds away from the city but still have great food venues and a big art community,” Georgina says. The house itself is a 1916 weatherboard cottage with charming heritage features. The brief was centred around celebrating the home’s history, supporting family life and establishing a connection to the garden.

Georgina’s knowledge of interior design, together with Troy’s background in building and landscaping, made the home a collaborative project for the couple. “The home has had a lot of love put into it; it’s a reflection of both of us at this time of our lives, which I will always look upon with happiness,” Georgina says. The original cottage had a lot of charm, and the couple didn’t want to lose its appeal, so Georgina curated a selection of natural timbers, textured renders, and soft steel finishes to maintain a relaxed and warm palette. The grey-and-caramel-veined marble surfaces, she says, tie all of the finishes together and enhance the overall texture of the spaces.

Grey-and-caramel-veined marble surfaces, as exemplified in the kitchen, tie all of the home’s finishes together and enhance the overall texture of the spaces.

The collection of furniture and found objects and art tell the story of the home. “The interior spaces are a backdrop for the interesting artworks and furniture to bounce off,” Georgina says. “One of my favourite pieces in our home would be the Frank Howell artwork in the dining area which was a 40th birthday present from my wonderful friends.” She also shares how much she loves the window seat in the kitchen, saying, “Here, you can feel the joy radiating from the garden and living spaces all at once.”

In keeping with Georgina’s signature style, warm, neutral tones are paired with muted pastels, and contemporary pieces are paired with vintage finds.

The garden formed a central part of the brief, with Georgina and Troy working together to bring the outside in.
