Together with Swedish kitchen manufacturer Nordiska Kök, London-based architect Åsa Hjort designed a minimalist oak kitchen for the scenic ‘Villa Hallen’ in Sweden.

Natural materials for a minimalist Scandinavian kitchen design

Just like the rest of the architectural details inside the house, the kitchen is composed of organic surfaces in oak, grey quartzite, and concrete. The appliances are all built-in to achieve a minimalist look and feel so typical for Scandinavian design.

The natural grain on the oak cabinets and the natural texture of the quartzite and concrete create a vibrant play in the otherwise clean and minimal design.

The natural materials in this kitchen are complemented with hardware in stainless steel, which along with the concrete flooring enhances the modern look of the space.

A kitchen layout with two kitchen islands

Two kitchen islands are quite uncommon in a kitchen layout, yet it works wonderfully in the space. The U-shaped layout of the kitchen consists of a lower module in front of the window, high cupboards against the wall, and an island both on the other side and in the middle of the space.

Rather the fitting the tall cabinets all the way up to the ceiling, the wall above the window aligns with the white space above the high cupboards for a minimal effect with a clean separation.
