The Aptenia cordifolia, known as baby sun rose, is a perennial, trailing shrub used for ground cover, and hanging pots and belongs to the succulent category. A member of the Aizoaceae family, it originates from South Africa and serves as an excellent pollen source for bees. It is distinguished by its densely creeping nature, achieving a height between 15 and 20 centimetres and spreading up to 60-70 cm wide. Its flowers, which bloom during the day and close at night, add a unique beauty to the garden.

In terms of appearance, the Aptenia has lush green, heart-shaped leaves ranging from 3 to 5 cm in length, while its stems have a square cross-section. Its flowering period begins at the end of spring and extends throughout the summer to autumn, offering a spectacular decoration with pink to purple, aster-like blossoms with a vivid pink-fuchsia color.

Regarding its care, the Aptenia grows satisfactorily in various soil types and is ideal for planting near the sea. It thrives in sunny locations, although it can also grow in semi-shaded areas, where its leaves acquire a more vibrant color. Watering should be moderate, especially during warmer periods, as it has drought resistance, making it ideal for dry climates and gardens without regular watering.
