Airisto Series by Studio Joanna Laajisto for Made by Choice

On the search for a stool for our ensuite makeover, I came across this beautiful new furniture collection by Helsinki-based Studio Joanna Laajisto. Designed for Finnish furniture brand Made by Choice, the Airisto series was originally designed for the bed & breakfast, Villa Airisto. Located in the picturesque Turku Archipelago and due to open its doors this year, Studio Joanna has designed the interior of the villa. I can’t wait to see it!

Designed for use as a side table, stool and a bench, the Airisto furniture represents the main principles of Studio Joanna Laajisto’s work: functionality, quality and aesthetics. Be it interiors, products or services, the agency’s philosophy is to create beautiful, long lasting and meaningful design that drives from sustainable values and understanding of human behaviour. “A good product has to fit in different environments from the modern and minimalist to rich and classical,” explains Laajisto. The simple and modest design language of the Airisto furniture emphasises the asymmetric shape of the foot structure. The natural ash finish accents the elegant features of the wood, while the stained black highlights the shape of the product. Beautifully poetic, the sculptural form is my favourite element.
