As part of my design trip and visit to Habitare and Helsinki design week a few years ago, I also got to see Lokal Helsinki. Run by photographer Katja Hagelstam, Lokal is a beautiful store and home to independent Finnish art, design and craft. Besides the unique art pieces in the gallery space, there is a wide array of selected products from some of the leading names in ceramics, furniture, art prints and kitchen ware. Now they celebrate their 10 year anniversary with the exhibition: Current
Current exhibition 9.4–14.5.2022
Water, as a current moving eternally forward, is the central theme of our their 10 year anniversary exhibition. The word current is also a reference to something happening or existing in present time. Current captures both movement and being in the present moment. Water then, as an element, is in itself without form, and for that reason it always takes the form of an existing vessel, object or place. Likewise, an art object gives a form to different materials, thoughts and feelings.
Current, as a concept, beautifully mirrors Lokal and the 10 years of its existence; the ability to give form, to flow forward, thus forming ourselves. Most importantly, however, we are existing now, currently, and we live for the current moment.
We invited artists who have become important to the core of our existence, and who’s works we have exhibited numerous times over the years: Renata Jakowleff, Antrei Hartikainen, Sasha Huber, Aimo Katajamäki, Matias Karsikas, Nathalie Lautenbacher, Outi Martikainen, Naoto Niidome, Rasmus Palmgren and Kristina Riska. // Text Lokal
Antrei Hartikainen Melt cabinet
One of the exhibitioners I follow since meeting during Design week is Antrei Hartikainen it was his work that again caught my eye when looking at the exhibition. Antrei Hartikainen is a master cabinet maker and designer from Finland known for his exquisite works in wood.
