When you catch the sun at just the right moment, it bathes the landscape in brilliant pinks, oranges, and even purples. The concept art of Juliette Oberndorfer captures this moment and others in her dramatic landscapes. Featuring grandiose depictions of the deep woods, creatures are often dwarfed by its presence. It’s a beautiful, if not poignant, reminder of how big the world is, and how small we are within it. The forest also symbolizes mystery and the unknown, and we’re often left to fill in the blanks of Juliette’s narratives. Who are these characters, and what are they plotting? It’s up to us to decide.

Most of Juliette’s work is done on the computer, but she’s recently translated a couple of her characters into equally-as-colorful embroideries. (See them below.)

Juliette’s vibrant characters look great stitched in thread. I’m eager to see more.
