We finally got around to painting our deck over the holidays. Some of you will have seen the little project unfold on Instagram but for those who missed it, I thought I’d share on the blog with a few photos I’ve taken since.

After building we let the deck weather naturally and while it has silvered nicely and comes up beautifully when clean, I always felt that it looked unfinished. We were a bit undecided on whether to stain, paint, do the whole deck or just the railing but finally came to a decision with the help of Dulux. Creating a cohesive look with our dark stained cedar home, we ended up going with the Dulux Timbacryl in Ebony, leaving the floor of the deck as is. A long lasting, low sheen, 100% acrylic finish for exterior timber, Timbracryl is self-priming and can be applied direct to most bare surfaces. It also has excellent durability, expanding and contracting with climate changes.

We are so happy with the end result, and feel like the deck now looks finished. A work in progress, we still need to paint the fences and tackle the landscaping, but it feels good to have made a start on the outdoor area at long last!
