Located in Sydney’s Upper North Shore, and built in the 1980s, this home has undergone a complete transformation by architect Daniel Boddam. Modernised, with a mid-century twist, the interior reflects the simplicity, elegance and timelessness that Daniel Boddam Studio is known for.

Playing up to the classical style of the original dwelling, the exterior was refreshed with a new roof streamlined with integrated photovoltaic (solar) cells. Crittal-style steel doors and windows were installed, complete with double glazing and ribbed glass for privacy. A change of layout on the ground floor gives the home much-needed flow. This included reducing the three-car garage to two, enabling a cloak room to be created adjacent the main entry. New openings were created forming an enfilade between the cloak room, lobby and living room with a fireplace on axis.

The staircase was amended to the opposite direction creating a greater sense of arrival, while the kitchen was repositioned adjacent wet areas, enabling more living space for the informal and formal dining. All door heights where raised and new joinery aligned so that the feeling of space and luxury was magnified through the proportions.

A considered approach with mid-century influences continues throughout the home. The interiors are luxurious yet pared back, enhanced by a warm material palette that injects tone, texture and tactility. A carefully curated selection of furniture includes pieces from Daniel Boddam Furniture, alongside statement lighting and eye-catching artworks and ceramics.

A feeling of calm simplicity has been created in the bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom features a stunning custom green velvet bed, set against textured grey wallpaper with soft carpet underfoot. Layered and textured materials create an atmosphere that is both restful and charming.

Green hues carry through to the master en-suite with fish-scale tiles, providing a beautiful sense of cohesion. Rendered Marmarino plastered walls that give off a gentle lustre are paired with steel framed shower doors and Arch wall lights by Douglas & Bec.
