Lhasa Wilderness yarn from Bijou Basin Ranch is a yak & bamboo blend yarn that is breathtakingly soft. An absolute pleasure to work with, this yarn is ideal for shawls, hats, mittens and other items worn close to the skin.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never met a Bijou Basin Ranch yarn I didn’t like. I’ll say that loud and proud, along with this disclosure: I’ve worked with them before, on a couple of knit and crochet designs, I’ve reviewed their yarns (as I’m doing today), and I’ve even visited their yak herd in person. The reason that list of collaborations is so long is because when you find a combination of great people who make a great thing that’s great to work with, you keep coming back to them.

(TLDR: Lhasa Wilderness yarn is great, and so are the folks behind it. Read on to learn more about this yarn, see more pretty pictures of it all swatched up, and enter to win a skein! ?)

THE YARN: Lhasa Wilderness from Bijou Basin Ranch

Colorway pictured: Sunshine
Skein details:
250 yards/229 meters per skein // 2.7 ounces/76g per skein // 75% yak down / 25% bamboo
Knitting needles: US 3, 3.25 mm / 22 stitches & 32 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Crochet hook: US F-5, 3.75 mm / 24 sc & 32 rows over 4 inches (10 cm)
Cons: I don’t have a whole lot here. The one caveat I would say is that this is a luxury yarn, so along with the amazingness comes a slightly higher price per skein.
Pros: This yarn is a combination of bamboo and delightfully light yak fiber, and as a result, it’s soooo soft. Honestly? I put these swatches on my desk after the photoshoot for this post, and I had to move them because I kept rubbing them on my face! What can I say? It’s really nice yarn.
Pattern Ideas: Conveniently enough, I have a free knitting pattern available that I designed with this very yarn! Get the Outlander Chevron Shawl pattern here. For crocheters, the Scrap Scallops Scarf would be lovely and soft in Lhasa Wilderness yarn!
