Jacka Crescent Townhouses completed in 2020, the project was designed by who are currently based in Sydney.
Consisting of three new townhouses across the sloping site in the eastern suburbs in Canberra. The interconnecting residences traverse up a steep topography, with rooms and circulation space that stretch and hang around a courtyard garden that frames the landscape of the adjacent property.
Using strong off-form concrete and precast concrete as the main building material. Plates beams, beams, and walls are displayed in their natural final results both inside and outside as respect to Canberra’s Brutalist architectural heritage. Externally, lightweight infill cladding of dark bronze anodised aluminum further articulate the facade and roof forms. There is a clerestory window that faces north to catch sunlight and provide cross ventilation.
Each part of the townhouse is made with a different plan, adapting to its location on the site and responding to directions from their respective owners. Touches on the interior palette changed in each residence, alternating and combining terracotta, terrazzo, stone, ceramics, concrete, and wood. Located on a comfortable site, the new buildings cover the ground, keeping discrete in the established landscape environment of the surrounding environment.
