A nice wall art can change a room. Even better if you can make it for almost no money. Today, I’m gonna give you two simple ideas to put some color on your wall. You will need a nice piece of fabric, anything will work, I used a table runner and a tea towel.
For the first one, you will need, beside the fabric, half circle dowels, a glue gun, and some push pins.
Decide how you want to hang your fabric, you will have to place a dowel on the top and the other at the bottom. Cut two dowel pieces, 2 inches longer than your fabric. Glue the dowels on the right side of the fabric, following the edges. Put a few push pins, or staples, to secure. To hang it, you can attach a cord at each end of the top dowel. Or you put two nails in the wall, and you place the dowel on it.
I first thought of hanging the fabric vertical in the stair case, but I like how it matches in the night hall. It’s perfect with the bookcase, the concrete bookends, the little orange lamp I took from my parent’s house, and the thrifted chair. I was planning on cover it, I already bought the fabric…but everything looks nice just the way it is.
Second way, turn a tea towel into an elegant art wall. You will need some square dowels 1×1 inch will work perfectly. I used reclaim wood so it’s a thinker dimension. Some push pins or staples, a glue gun, a piece of cord, some wood glue, nails and hammer.
Start by making a frame with the dowels (sorry I forgot to take a pic). The wooden frame dimension must be smaller than the fabric. You have to be able to wrap the fabric around the frame to fix it on the back. So to make the frame, cut 4 pieces of wood, glue and nail them together.
Center the fabric and start gluing it on the back of the frame. Ensure that the fabric is tight and doesn’t drape.
Then you can secure the fabric with push pins or staples. I use the glue gun first because it’s easy to remove if the fabric is not place correctly. If you feel confident, you can skip this step and staple the fabric directly.
I run out of white push pins…nobody will notice, it’s on the back!
To be able to hang the frame, put two small nail on the inside of the frame and attach a cord to it.
As you can see there is two fabric layers on my frame. The tea towels I choose is made of light fabric, and you could see the wooden frame through. So, I first fixed a plain white fabric on the frame, and then the tea towel with the print I want to show. If you use heavy or dark fabric you probably don’t need this extra fabric layer.
Well it’s pink, so obviously it ends up in my daughter bedroom.
