Let’s face it. Most of us have expensive taste and expensive dreams. When you imagine your dream bedroom, are you imagining something that’s within your budget? Probably not. We can of course compromise and end up with something we really love if we follow a few simple steps.
Budget
Of course, the first step to styling your dream bedroom within budget is actually coming up with your own budget. First ask yourself what you can reasonably afford that won’t cut budget out of other important areas of your life, like the food you eat and school fees.
We all have to draw the line somewhere no matter how much we have. If you’re not sure about your budget, a good place to start is by working out what you spend on groceries, bills, etc. each month, factoring in a little more if you go over and then working out what’s left over. If it’s not much, then you may want to set aside a new high interest savings account that you can put in a little at a time over time to save up. If it’s only going to take a couple of months to afford what you want however, you can move on to the next step a little faster.
Plan your look
One of the things most people get wrong when styling their home is to buy what they like straight up. In theory it sounds like exactly what you should be doing when styling your dream bedroom but this doesn’t take into account how certain pieces look with each other. We all have certain styles and looks we like but they don’t always mesh together perfectly.
That’s why you need to plan out a style before you hit the shops. A good way to do this is by creating a mood board for your bedroom. Cut out pictures of furniture and homewares from magazines that you like and see how they all work together. This way you’ll get a true sense of what styles go together and what styles don’t. A simple way to do this is by
Wait it out
This is perhaps the most important step in the process. Waiting. In creating your dream bedroom you’ll need to
Don’t simply go out and buy today just because you’re excited about the process and want it done now. Patience is your best friend when styling your home.
Stick to your budget
Once you’ve found those perfect pieces, remember you need to
The good thing about the waiting process of course though is that we can accumulate a bigger budget depending on how long we wait. Whether you find your items quickly or slowly though you’ll need to stick to your budget. While your dream bedroom may be pricey, it won’t be your dream bedroom after all even if it looks perfect but you’ve gone over budget and not left enough in the kitty for essentials.
