Perched on a corner in the heart of the ninth arrondissement, Hotel de Nell is immediately recognisable for its striking white facade amongst an area of Paris that feels unchanged since the building’s 19th century debut. With neighbours including the Saint-Eugène church, Trevise theatre, wax museum Musée Grévin, and French auction centre Drouot, the boutique hotel reflects an approach where refined hospitality mixes with local culture.

Developed by hoteliers Charm & More and designed by leading french architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the 33-room hotel draws on its authentic Parisian character to deliver an experience that unites minimalist decor, luxury elements and unique features for a memorable stay.

After the successful debut of their first luxury hotel with Benkiraï in St Tropez, Jacques Konckier and his daughter Lisa Abrat set out to expand their Charm & More collection in Paris. With a reputation as a creative and intellectual hub, Paris’s ninth arrondissement was chosen for the location and two adjoining buildings were acquired and developed to create the corner hotel building.

The hotel’s architecture is a reflection of the ninth arrondissement’s artistic personality as well as the history and culture of the landscape. In restoring the original 19th century facade, Wilmotte & Associates set a crisp white-on-white colour palette throughout the hotel, complimented by parquet floors, organic wool carpets and wood panelling. The suites are minimal but cosy, mixing warm textiles and natural wood with the pure white marble of the Japanese-style bathrooms. Wilmotte & Associates also created a custom range of furniture and lighting for the hotel, from standout pieces like the lobby sofas to the integrated bedheads with reading lamps in the suites.

Demonstrating Charm & More’s commitment to high-end hospitality, Hotel de Nell delivers all the creature comforts as well as individual touches that elevate the experience – the ‘wine library’ being a particular standout. Other favourite features include a massage room, elegant lobby bar, enormous Japanese-style baths to soak in and a pillow menu for those really seeking to maximise the luxurious experience.

As an emerging Parisian neighbourhood, the ninth arrondissement boasts neo-classical architecture like the Paris Garnier to enjoy as well as shopping and dining destinations galore. Shop ’til you drop at the Galeries Lafayette on the Boulevard Haussmann or dig deeper through the district to find shops, bars, brasseries and bistrots – particularly after hours. SoPi (South Pigalle) is a particularly buzzing spot for locals and visitors alike.

Between its chic decor, vibrant location and best-in-class hotel dining, Hotel de Nell is perfectly Parisian in every way. For a Paris city stay that feels authentic to the local experience without compromising on luxury, Hotel de Nell is a worthy trip addition.

The hotel also features its own 60 place restaurant ‘La Régalade’. With those quintessential checked-floor tiles and monochromatic colour palette, it satisfies aesthetic expectations while the menu from leading French chef Bruno Doucet is sure to set a high standard.
