Recently, we’ve gotten a little obsessed over window seats. Offering a stylish spot to work, rest or play the humble window seat can provide the perfect seating solution whether you’re tight on space, taking advantage of an oversized window or need to split up a long walled area.

Taking our inspiration from The Rose House by Watts Studio, we couldn’t look past that generous, black framed window leading our eye out towards the courtyard. Not to mention the cosy mix of coloured cushions, sweet nesting timber side tables and harmonious mix of materials. From the marble insert, leather banquette upholstery to the whitewashed floorboards this is the perfect little sanctuary to sit and watch the world go by (preferably with a good book, our favourite throw and a cup of tea) All it takes is some clever architectural planning.

There are a few key elements that deserve consideration when building a window seat; shelving, storage, lighting, upholstery and of course the view. Ultimately, the aim is to frame the window, maximise the outlook and optimize the space for its best use. So, layer it up and invite family and friends to curl up rain, hail or shine.

Saddle Leather is a full grain, aniline dyed leather. Inspired by the vegetable tanned leather used for saddlery. We love it for its supple versatility and texture – especially as a bench seat banquette. This one is from the leather specialists at Spinneybeck.

Playful Pendants

Light enhances both mood and atmosphere- especially when it’s designed by Pinch. These organic Soren Pendant Lights create a soft glow to create a relaxed vibe – perfect for a reading nook.

A versatile piece every home should own. We love the cosy comfort of a luxurious cotton blanket, like the Trieste throw from Bemboka. Perfect for curling up on those cooler spring evenings.
